Popular uses
- Steam irons and garment steamers: no scale build-up or white flakes on clothes (check your iron's instructions)
- Car batteries and cooling systems: topping up serviceable lead-acid batteries and mixing with coolant
- Humidifiers and diffusers: no white mineral dust on furniture
- Diluting: mixing with IPA, hydrogen peroxide and castile soap
- DIY cosmetics and soap making: consistent, predictable results
- Aquariums, plants and lab work: a clean, mineral-free base
Why not tap water?
Much of the UK has hard water. When it heats up or evaporates it leaves limescale, which blocks steam vents, shortens appliance life and leaves white dust. Distilled water doesn't.

Distilled Water, Ultra Pure H2O: your questions
Still not sure? Ask us ›
How is distilled water different from tap water?
Distilled water is boiled and condensed, which leaves the minerals and impurities behind. With no minerals, it won't leave limescale or white dust.
Is distilled water the same as deionised water?
Both have the minerals removed, but in different ways. Distilled water is boiled and condensed, while deionised water is passed through ion-exchange resins. Either suits most irons, batteries and cooling systems.
Is it safe for steam irons?
Yes, it helps stop limescale building up. Check your iron's instructions, as a few makers suggest mixing distilled and tap water.
Can I use it in a humidifier or diffuser?
Yes. Distilled water stops the white mineral dust that ultrasonic humidifiers can leave on furniture. Check your machine maker's instructions.
Can I use it in my car?
Yes. Use it to mix with antifreeze or coolant at the ratio your car maker recommends, and to top up lead-acid batteries.
Is it good for soap making and cosmetics?
Yes. Makers use distilled water in lotions, toners and soap because tap water can carry minerals that affect the finished product.
Can I drink it?
It is sold for household, automotive and lab use, not as drinking water.
How long does it keep?
Kept sealed and out of sunlight it keeps well. Once opened, close the cap tightly and use it within a few months for the best purity.
What sizes is it available in?
It comes in 100ml, 250ml, 500ml, 1 Litre, 2x 1 Litre, 5 Litre, 2 x 5 Litre and 4 x 5 Litre. The larger sizes and multi-packs work out cheaper per litre.
How much is UK delivery?
Standard UK delivery (2 to 3 working days) is free on orders over £30. Under £30 it starts from £2.99, and express delivery (1 to 2 working days) is available at checkout from £3.85. Paid delivery to Scotland and Northern Ireland is £1.99 extra.
